Mulan :)

Hello beautiful people :)
Three posts in one day?
Whaaaaat?!
I hope that I don't run out of things to blog about!
Fingers crossed.

So yesterday, I took a trip down to Walmart with my brother to buy a few things.
When I am there I always browse through the electronic section to see if there are any movies I want to buy.
Lately, I've been trying to build my Disney movie collection back up because all my VHS copies are hidden somewhere.
I am in love with the Classic Disney films and I want to have DVD versions for my children to watch.
I've been searching for Mulan because I love this film, but I had the toughest time finding it.
Luckily, I found it yesterday in a combo pack with Mulan 2.
It blows my mind as to how frightening this film is for a Disney one.
This scared me as a child and still does!
It's not the typical princess love story, which is maybe why I like it so much.
(Don't get me wrong, I do love Snow White, Cinderella etc)
This film is all about honour and female empowering.
Mulan makes an amazing transition from trying so hard to be the perfect wife to being the hero who saves China.
It's clear in the film that women are supposed to be the perfect bride and keep their mouths shut.
The fact that Mulan ignores all of the rules to bring her family honour and protect her father is great.
All women should feel great watching this movie because of the role Mulan plays.

There are certain points through this film that makes my heart stop and makes me feel truly sad.
The scene after they sing A Girl Worth Fighting For where they see the burning village makes my heart sink.
Stuff like this happens all the time and seeing old houses on fire is very heart breaking.
Silence throughout that scene makes it even more dramatic.
Shortly after that scene there is the intense scene when they are in battle.
When Shan Yu and the Huns appear from the top of the mountain and start running down gives me goosebumps.
I'm not sure why exactly, but I get chills every single time.
My favourite line that Shang says before they prepare to fight is:
"If we die, we die with honour"
The look on the men's faces as he says that shows fear, yet they oblige because they know that they are there to fight for honour.

Now these three fellows add so much comedy to this film, really lightening up the mood.
Yao, Ling and Chien-po are so funny, I can't help but laugh.
They are such goofballs who have no idea what is going on.
The battle scene when they decide to go help Mulan is one of my favourites.
As they run towards the Huns, they see the avalanche coming their way and immediately turn around trying to run back for safety.
Later on in that scene when Yao tries to save Mulan and Shang, my gosh I was laughing so hard when he failed and then miraculously managed to get a hold of the rope again.

I think it's great to have those certain characters who are really funny.
They really make a film enjoyable for me.
& The fact that these three are so different from each other makes it even better.
Another one of my favourite characters is Mushu

His side comments and the delivery in his lines are fantastic!
He's such a comical character that any scene that he is in, you know it'll be funny.

This is also my favourite song.
The acapella part is my favourite.
This song gets stuck in my head all the time.
I've been singing it all day!

I love everything about this film.
The animation is great, the songs are great and I love all the characters.
This is a film that my children will have to watch.
I am going to leave you with my favourite quote of the entire film

"The greatest gift and honour is having you for a daughter"
- Mulan's Father
My baby watching Mulan with me :)
You should all go watch Mulan again.
Watching Disney films always reminds me of my childhood.
It's a great feeling :)
I hope you all enjoyed this!

30 Day Snap #3 | Mulan, Pup & Pinky Party

Hello beautiful people :)
This is my day in a nutshell.
I'm spending majority of my day on my couch blogging with my puppy curled up in my feet and watching Mulan.
I have just repurchased a DVD copy of Mulan because I have misplaced my VHS version.
I love this film and will watch this over and over again.

I am working on a blog post solely dedicated to this film.
So stay tuned :)

Is The Great Gatsby Really That Great?

Hello beautiful people :)
Just a few hours ago I was able to watch The Great Gatsby with my three best friends.
Reading this book in Grade 11 English was phenomenal.
I find myself enjoying majority of the books that we read in high school.
Although, I never really admitted it at the time, I really did enjoy The Great Gatsby.

When the previews of the film started showing, I wasn't that thrilled.
99% of the time when a book is turned into a film, I am disappointed.
I don't enjoy watching a film after reading the book because the book will always be better.
I just love all the description that is provided in the books and left out in most films.
Now I'm not saying that I don't enjoy the movies, all I am saying is that the books appeal more to me.

But once it hit the theatres and people that I knew started to watch it, it got me more excited.
My friends have been saying great things about the film.
I am easily persuaded, so hearing such great reviews encouraged me to go out and watch it.
On my way to the theatre I was extremely excited and walking out of the theatre I'm a little confused...

I am so torn after watching this movie.
I really enjoyed it, but there are moments that really irritated me.
The top two things that I instantly fell in love with are the soundtrack for the film and the attention to detail.
The music isn't what I expected to be, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Each song suited the scene and it really helped create the feel of what was going on at the time.
I'm definitely going to add those songs to my Ipod :)

From the outfits to the vocabulary and to the set, the 20's theme was definitely emphasized.
During the entire film, I felt like I was liking within their time period, which I love.
I really like when films pay attention to the detail because it pays off.
Gatsby's mansion fit the 20's feel from head to toe.
The amount of work that must have gone into that blows my mind.
The chandeliers really caught my attention, they were so beautiful especially when they light up.

The outfits were well put together.
Every single piece of clothing and accessories looked great.
Everything Daisy wore, I wish I could own.
The amount of crystals on her accessories made her look beautiful.
I love the headband that she wore when she attended Gatsby's party and the beautiful diamond ring on her finger.

Look at this beautiful design.
I want a ring like this one!

There are only two things that I have to say I wasn't too fond of.
I have never been a fan of Tobey Maguire.
I didn't like him in the Spiderman films, and I didn't like him in this one.
The fact that he narrated the film irritated me because I don't like his voice.
I don't find his voice enjoyable to listen to and that can really effect whether or not I like a film.
If someone else played Nick Carraway I would have enjoyed this twenty times more.

I also found that throughout the film the setting seemed very fake.
During certain scenes it looked very edited.
I don't like when I'm able to tell when there has been a lot of editing and altering done.
It takes away from the scene and I can't appreciate it as much.

But overall I love everything else.
I loved Daisy and each role minus Nick's was cast perfectly.
Everything was magnificent and I definitely recommend this film.
I give it a 4 star rating :)
